Forsaken World – Free MMORPG – Spotlight – Shard Gear

Shards in Forsaken World can be found in all corners of the world – and can then be turned in for amazing gear with set bonuses!
In nearly every map in Forsaken World, elite mobs are roaming alongside their regular counterparts. These elite mobs can drop some neat stuff, but most importantly, they drop specific types of Shards that can be traded in for set gear. The type of shard you get is dependent on the level of the elite mob, so shoot for higher level elites if you need a higher level set!
These shards can be traded in at a set of merchants located near the boat in Freedom Harbor. These merchants offer equipment divided by level range, from the lowest to the highest. You'll need the required number of shards, along with a small fee of Soul Coins in order to purchase these items. By far the easiest way to get nicely geared up, farming shards is a great way to ensure that you go into any instance or dungeon in perfect fighting form.
As an added bonus, you'll be given a handful of shards for free by simply leveling up your character and opening your supply stash every five levels. You'll get free Obsidian Shards and Red Spot shards fairly early on, and later you'll even get some high level shards to play around with. Make sure to kill any elite mob you come across, and you'll have enough shards to buy the full set!

Official launch of March 23rd, not Feb 23rd. They changed their mind about the closed beta so I guess its an open beta now.

You dont need one to play on phase 4 my friend. watch the developer's diary 4 and jon bellis talks about phase 4 and how anyone with or without a beta key can access the game hope this helps you :D but it would help if you had a beta key just incase they change that but yeah there you go :D

nice about the shard with mobs. by the way seeing a dwarf markman in pvp scared me now,they may not aoe as much like mage but i see them in action they can damage badly to players in rang like they are archers i may choose them to play on once FW is open.

Dude...maybe it's just poor English, but it makes no sense. Not to be argumentative as I am excited to try this new game out as well, but falls in a bad spot with upcoming very refined giants like GW2 and Tera online.They will be able to compete with WoW. Nobody can yet claim best until WoW goes away, it's the undisputed undefeated heavyweight MMO champion, it's just that people grow tired of the same thing. If seeing things clear etc are a past problem just don't play the lower end of the games available. I do hope we both find FW to be enjoyable. :)

Actually, I think what they mean is that the "Closed Beta" Is almost OVER. Phase 4 starts in 5 days, and it is open to EVERYONE, even if you don't have a "Closed Beta Key". Then the game goes tottally "LIVE" on March 23rd.

Don't know what you mean, however, closed beta phase 4 will allow anyone with a beta key to participate. At the end of CB phase 4, there's a server wipe and we all start over in Open Beta and of course then ALL can play. Open beta (if it's like PW) will remain as the games full time open status.

These soul coins, do you have to buy them with real cash or is it something you get in the game?

appearently those soul coins are obtained via ingame daily quests and such. It seems to be the "Bind on Pickup" equivalent to ingame gold.

You get them in your Suply Stash every 5 levels, and also by completing certain tasks, as well as defeating elite mobs. I've only been in closed Beta for two days now and I already have 24 Obsidian shards. I'm a Lvl 16 Kindred Vampire. I'm just having a hard time finding the little Buggers you turn them in too for equipment ... LOL But now I see from the article that they are near the ship in Freedom Harbor, I'm heading there right now.

There is NOTHING for actual Cash yet. I actually purchased US $50 worth of Zen and I'm not able to apply it to my FW account yet, So I'll save it in my account until They open up the Market or go "LIVE" on March 23rd, which ever comes first.
